Why Do We Dream
Introduction:
Everybody will surely experience Dreams. It will flashes in our brain in the form of images, videos, and feelings. Some say that we may know the future from dreams. Is it true can we know our future by dreams, why actually do the dreams come, can we control them? What kind of dreams are good and bad. In Vedas, there is a sastra for dreams called as SwapnaVidya.
Scientifically we can say that dreams will come from REM(rapid eye movement)sleep. A kind of hallucinations that was created by our subconscious brain when the body took a rest while sleeping. Our mind is more active while sleeping than awake.
Swapna vidya:
The Swapna Vidhya has been a science from the ancient ages. This Vidhya is like Ayurveda and Siddha. In India most of the popular sages or siddhi's like Sushrutha, Varahamira, Markandeya rushi, Parashara smriti and etc., had been created the science of dreams, Dreams are divided into 7 types:
- Drusta
- Shrushta
- Anubhuta
- Kalpikata
- Prathita
- Bhavika
- Dosaja
Drusta: It means what you see in the daytime it comes into your dream.
Shrusata: The Dream of which you heard.
Anubhuta: The Dream that what we see and hear before we sleep.
Kalpikata: The Dream that shows what you imagine.
Prathita: This Dream is about the Aspirations
Bhavika: In this dream, we can see our future. If we see the future at the time Brahmamuhurtha that will comes true. This is why that dreams may come true.
Dosaja: It is due to disorders of the body
Among all these seven categories of Dreams, the Bhavika is only a reliable Dream and other dreams will depend on other factors. Only dreams come only we are in Swapnavastha, if we are in deep sleep we won't get dreams.
In Swapnavidhya the night was divided into 4quarter's/parts each with 3hours. Evening 6pm to 9pm is the first quarter, 9pm to 12am the second quarter, 12am to 3am the third quarter and 3am to 6am is the fourth quarter.
The Bhavika dream in the first quarter may come true in one year or more, in second and third quarters it may take six to eight months, and fourth quarter Bhavika dream, it comes true quickly in ten days of time. In the second quarter means in the time of 9pm to 12am if you get any bad dreams it shows negative's. That means the Bhavika dream that comes in Brahmamuhurtha will surely come true. so this is the reason for saying that the early morning dreams may come true.
If you see any god or goddess, cow, bull, kings, flames, wise men, and pure water it is a good sign of dreams, which means something good to happen in the future. If your dream is about temples, hills, elephants you will get money. Rivers, sea or ocean is also a good sign for the future.
According to Hindu sculptures, the Dreams had given a valuable place like other vidyas. There are various types of Swapna mantras regarding the different deities. There are mantras for both good and bad and to avoid nightmares dreams.
