Sara Kala by Pathanjali maharishi
Introduction:
Sara Kala, the word Sara means flow, and Kala
means an Art. This is one of the most important Kala of yoga, which was said
by the Patanjali Maharishi. Only a few members are known about this Sara Kala.
It is also called Sara Sasthra. This is said to be one of the major parts of
Yoga.
Sara Kala is about the breathing
technique which regards the Surya Nadi and Chandra Nadi. Breathing through the right nostril of the nose is said to be Surya Nadi, and similarly left nostril
breathing is Chandra Nadi.
While taking a breath we can observe
that air can flow easily through one nostril, and the other nostril will be hard.
This friction should be like this if the air flows easily through both Surya
and Chandra Nadi, we can notice that our health is not good.
Surya Nadi:
Breathing
through the right nostril, the energy flows that come up the right side of the
body. The energy starts from the right terminating on the right at the right
nostril. The major energy flow is known as Pingala Nadi. The Surya means the
sun, the solar energy means heat, warm energies.
The Surya Nadi enhances the
functioning of the sympathetic nervous system to survive. The fight the stress
response is mediated through the sympathetic system and the right nostril helps
to do so. The Surya Nadi helps us to catabolic burning up our resources to keep
us alive. It enables us to become active. On those days in dull, uneasy when you
do not feel like coming out of bed in such situations, but we need to go to
our daily work, the right nostril breathing technique can set the day.
If we are stressed up and
stressed out. We need the parasympathetic system to cool and calm the body. The
persons are having higher functioning of a sympathetic always become stressed
out, for those people the left nostril breathing technique brings them back to
the middle and to a balanced point.
Our right nostril had a connection
with the left brain. By activating Surya Nadi, our left part of the brain can have
the power to deal with a qualitative aspect like arts, music, and some kind of
creative works.
There is a gesture called Nasagra gesture to activate the Surya Nadi in pranayama. Close the right nostril with the thumb and start breathing in and out with the left nostril. Follow this technique 6 to 9 times around.
The Gesture is shown in the below fig:
Right Nostril:
Surya Nadi
Pingala Nadi
Sympathetic
Positive Energy
Chandra Nadi:
Breathing
through the left nostril, the energy flow starts from the left and ends on
the left side of the body. This energy flow is known as Ida Nadi.
Chandra Nadi
refers to the moon, a cool and with lunar nature. It enables us to go into the parasympathetic nervous system. Parasympathetic helps us to anabolic replication of
our resources to live for the other day.
The people
who are tired, dull, feeling laziness should use to activate the Surya
Nadi (right nostril breathing). As per science, our left brain is connected with Surya Nadi to do day-to-day
activities. Both analytical and logical functions mean quantitative
functioning’s will be performed by the left brain
Ex: Acquiring
the data, Generalization of the results, etc.
To perform
this Chandra Nadi pranayama, the same Nasagra gesture but with the ring finger
to close the left nostril and start breathing in and out through the right nostril.
Follow this technique 6 to 9 times around.
Left Nostril:
Chandra Nadi
IDA Nadi
Parasympathetic
Negative Energy
Conclusion:
We had Pingala Nadi on the right and IDA Nadi on the left. The left and right energy that is flowing through the
right and left nostrils determinates and balances the heat and cool energy in
the body.
The main goal
of yoga is to balance our Breath. To say clinically Right Nostril had a
connection with left-brain and similarly left nostril with the right brain. Surya Nadi
(Right Nostril Breathing technique) enhances quantitative aspects in daily
activities, and similarly, Chandra Nadi (Left Nostril Breathing technique)
enhances Qualitative aspects in daily activities.
But as per
Indian culture and beliefs, Lakshmi Devi is the goddess of prosperity and
Saraswathi Devi is the goddess of Wisdom and Knowledge. Lakshmi is the left brain and
Saraswathi is the Right Brain. The balancing of both energies is called Sara Kala in yoga.
